Finishing

We believe the finishing of our furniture is just as important as the making of it. With experience we have learned that there is no one size fits all approach to this important part of the making process. Although technically almost any finish can be used on the completed piece, practicality and
durability are essential on furniture that gets heavy everyday usage such as dining room tables and chairs. The range of modern hardwearing lacquers we have on offer are perfect for the aforementioned, but may not suit a beautiful freestanding bookcase or a fitted wardrobe.

Traditional french polishing techniques are often used on the more ornate pieces that do not require such a durable finish. Ultimately the chosen finish and colour of any given project is entirely the customers choice, but we are more than happy in helping to guide you towards the finish that is right for both your preference and the piece of furniture itself.

French Polishing and Restoration:
We offer a full french polishing service that is both workshop based and mobile. Whether it’s the repolishing of an antique table or the restoration of a staircase, the variety of work we have carried out over the past 20 years ensures the upmost care will be taken to preserve the natural beauty of
the original piece.

Specialist Floor & Stair Finishing:
Hard wearing durable lacquers are used in the finishing of all our floors and stair treads. Stair balustrades and spindles are normally traditionally french polished to give a finish that is more pleasing to the touch. Finishes are often applied by hand to ensure seamless results. If the   stripping, sanding and preparation of any timber is required, this is also a hand procedure to reduce dust, damage to the timber and generally results in a cleaner overall job.

Other finishing services we offer include the following:
Spray painted finishes, both fully top coated and primed only, colour matching, the stripping and preparation of all furniture, general staining, liming, bleaching, waxing, Shabby Chic and hand painted finishes.
